Part of the grand staircase section showing a banister cut from in situ rock. One of the things that makes me question the building of many of the sacred sites in Peru is the fact that there are various levels of craftsmanship used in building.
As you see on the left wall, there is a distinct difference in the craftsmanship used to build the lower section of the wall with that of the upper section. I would like to speculate that the Inca built on top of ancient existing walls which may have been built by the Atlanteans or some other highly developed culture. Why else would there be such a difference in craftsmanship?
