The Intiwatana Stone is not a sundial, but is sometimes called "the place to which the sun is tied" in the Quecha language. I believe same as anthropologist and author Johan Reinhard that the Intiwatana Stone is associated with "apu" mountain worship.
The viewpoint which I took this photo gives you a sense of what a shaman would see as he/she would be seated atop the Intiwatana Stone. As I expressed earlier, Machu Picchu is located between two fault lines, the Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu faults. This means there should be higher magnetic energies located throughout Machu Picchu.
