This is a wonderful example of the traditional Inca built trapezoical shape used on doorways, windows, and niches. These niches were used to hold ceremonial sacred objects. I've heard of different objects found in these niches, from skeletal remains to gold statues. One thing is clear, these niches contained sacred objects of deep meaning.
I'm also amazed at the engineering knowledge the Inca held to design this earthquake proof structural form. Such wisdom!
