I would like to share with you a mystical experience I had while visiting Machu Picchu! Let me start by saying that my plans during my trip to Peru included a visit to Machu Picchu and be in Aquas Calientes on March 3, 2007 so that I could experience the full moon and total lunar eclipse. I did arrive to my destination, but did not physically get to see it due to clouds and rain throughout the night. I later found out from the bus driver to Machu Picchu that Pachamama always gets cleansed with rain when there is a lunar eclipse. This was news to me!
Anyway, the following morning I left with a group to go to Machu Picchu from Aquas Calientes at 6 am. This was great because there was hardly any visitors at the site this early in the morning. I was awe struck when I planted my feet into this sacred site! I found my tour group and spent the next two hours listening to the standard information about the Incas and such. This was nice, but it really wasn't what I was hoping to get out of my visit. However, moving around with the group and listening to the tour guide did ease me into the experience.
Near the end of the tour, we were going into different rooms and the guide would go into explanations of the applicable history of the room. I had lagged behind and was at the end of the group when I was drawn to the view outside of this particular room. There was a flat stone outcropping which measured about twelve feet in diameter. It looked like a perfect spot for just sitting and "experiencing" the most beautiful view of the mountains. I had a great desire to sit in this special place. However, the walkway to this place was roped off with a single piece of rope. I wondered why this natural flat rock area was roped off and why the public couldn't go to it. It wasn't like the other super places which had fine stonework done.
Then the tour guide came out and she noticed that I was focused on the outcropping and the beautiful view rather than her talk. She then said, "It's interesting that you are drawn to this place. Last year a couple of japanese men with computers and sensing devices came to Machu Picchu and they found that there was an energy vortex in this specific spot. She said that you can actually see the vortex when clouds come close to this place. The clouds will swirl around this area." So, for this reason, the authorities of the park have decided to rope off this area. What a shame! I continued with the tour group, but kept track of this location because I was determined to come back later.
About a half hour later, our tour guide had completed the tour and she said for us to go out on our own to experience this majestic site. So I took off to find my way back to this special inconspicuous place. I realized that I was not going to be able to sit atop the flat rock area, so I thought I would go one level down and explore the rock outcropping.
As I made my way back to this place, my sensory perceptions were kicking in. Now, what I want to share with you before I go any further, is that because of my fear factors, and my inability to tune into what was really going on, the experiences I am about to share with you are not ethereal. Yet they were strange at the moment. Strange in that they were not normal in the sense of normal as our material world defines normal. You may even say that they were paranormal.
So I'm heading back to this spot which had caught my attention. And as I near this place of power my sense of smell kicks in. I walk another ten yards or so, and the smell becomes very strong. It smells like crap - poop, doodoo, etc.! I keep walking and come around a corner where there is a large grassy area about twenty feet in diameter, and there in front of my eyes are hundreds, if not thousands of little poop pebbles. For some reason, which at that time I could not understand, all the llamas had decided to poop in the same place this very day! Very strange! I unconsciously filed this information and kept walking towards the stone outcropping. A few more yards and then I get this immediate need to, guess what? Yes, I had an incredible sensation in my stomach and thought, oh my God, how am I going to get back to the restrooms which were several hundred yards away. I stood perfectly still and composed myself. The feeling in my abdominal area was excruciating! I felt totally bloated, as if I was going to explode! So, I figured I would try to let the gas out slowly and hope that I would not poop on myself. Luckily, this became the case. I was able to relieve the gas pressure and, after a few moments, was able to continue with my trek.
Looking around the area, and realizing there was no access to the stone outcropping, I went through a small set of rough hewn steps to the next lower level. I was very close now to the stone outcropping. I noticed there were two separate rooms which were connected to the large stone. I walked into the first and there was a natural triangular pyramid indentation in the rock outcropping. The size of this indention was just big enough for a person to sit inside. It was about four feet deep and had a little ledge (mesa) for ceremony. Being in the state that I was in, I feared to sit inside it. What would people think that may walk by seeing me sitting in this hole! Geez, the crap that keeps me from experiencing this magical sacred place. It was my little fear voice keeping me from experiencing reality. Just as all this mind stuff is going on, another tourist walks out of the second room. He stands at the entrance to the second room, pauses for a moment, says hi, and then goes on about his own trek.
I was startled for a moment, but then became curious as to what was in this second room. So I went into the room and found that the natural stone outcropping covered the back wall of this room. But more interesting was the natural cracks in the stone. Even more interesting and eye catching was the ooze that was coming out of this sacred stone. I stepped closer and noticed just in front of the stone was what looked like a small pool of blood. I stepped back with astonishment. Could this pool of blood looking stuff on the ground have been put there by the tourist that had just come out? Or was this blood-looking liquid something coming from the mountain? It seemed to be too far from the mountain wall for this to happen. I couldn't figure it out. So I steeped up to the stone outcropping and slid my finger across the crack where the wall was oozing. The substance coming out of the crack was gelatinous. It was most definitely a thick liquid coming out of pachamama! Could this blood coming out of the stone outcropping actually be blood from previous sacrifices made hundreds of years ago by the Inca? I know that this outcropping is not too far from the condor sacrificial area used by the Incas.
These two photographs show the area of the condor sacrifices as a reference point. The "Temple of the Condor" is not too far from the location where I was. Note the small hole at the beak of the condor on the right. This is where the blood drained down from the sacrifices.
Everything that had happened to me so far was very interesting, and my energy perceptions were being honed. I was finally getting to experience the mystical aspects of Machu Picchu. Although I knew that I was not in a place in my life to truly ingest all that is possible in this sacred place, I walked out of the blood room and started heading back out to find a place where I could look out over the beautiful scenic mountains. There in front of me was this majestic view and even a small stone slab to sit and meditate.
A misty light rain began to fall as I settled into a seating position on a perfectly smooth slab of stone that was purposely set for the viewpoint of the picture on the left. It was immediately obvious to me that the carved indentation into the stone outcropping to the left of this picture is an altar for ceremony to connect with the particular apu that is visually referenced to the right of this picture. What else could its purpose be? This image has been burned into my psyche. Everywhere I have gone since this event has taken place, the image is burned into my minds eye. It has gotten to be so much that I finally printed several copies of this photo and placed them throughout my house so that I can reference it easily.
I am including on the right hand side another more obvious photo of this mountain in reference to Machu Picchu so that you can get a better view of the splendor of the Putucusi Apu. Local legend indicates that Putucusi is an access point for the higher frequency "Crystal City of Light". Putucusi is also known as the "Happy Mountain" by the Q'ero Indians. The Q'ero Indians are direct decendants of the Inca, so they should know who Putucusi is.
What's interesting about this experience, which at the time of the experience was not so "special", is a turning point in my life. It's as if the Putucusi Apu has been pulling me along to do something else with my life. To do something special with pachamama, the Incas, ecoliving, sharing the new eco-technologies for a sustainable living, and preparation for living in the new age past 2012. Maybe I am simply obsessed with it all and I am starting to go into the "crazy" category our society in the US likes to put us in. But you know what? I'm actually not worried about being categorized. I now know my path and I am heading in a direction that will create a sense of wholeness in my life.
I am creating my reality! Care to join in this adventure?...
